STARTING POINT
The Scout Hut on Spring Lane in Pannal. Address details and map are on the Home page.
PARKING
There is plenty of on-street parking in the village, a short walk from the hut. Please do not park at the hut without prior arrangement as there is not much space and the car park may be in use.
EQUIPMENT & SAFETY
Be prepared! This is Yorkshire so the weather can be anything, check it before you set off. Walking boots, warm clothes and waterproofs are recommended as well as a sun hat and cream! Take a drink and a snack (easter eggs are good). We always recommend taking a printed copy of the map with you - see below. Also, some hand gel for after the stiles, etc and maintain social distancing, please.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
GRAND DEPART
Left out of the Scout Hut, down then up Spring Lane. There's a footpath opposite the hut you can use to avoid some of the road.
LEFT AT CHAPEL
At the chapel, left at the roundabout onto Burn Bridge Road
UP HILL END LANE
At the roundabout, right up Hill End lane
LEFT ONTO FOOTPATH
Look for the 'Harrogate Ringway' signpost on the right, then soon after turn left onto a footpath
OVER THE BRIDGE
Keep right through the field, over the bridge, until the road
CROSS BRACKENTHWAITE LANE
Right then left to pick up the footpath opposite
INTO THE WOOD
Cross the bridge and into The Warren
COTE DE WARREN
Steep climb up through the trees.
LEFT AT GATE AND UP THE HILL
Follow the wall
LEFT AT BOTTOM OF HILL
Follow the wall round to the left
DOWN THROUGH THE COW FIELD
Keep right through the field
OVER THE 7 BAR GATE
Not really. Use the style.
STONE STYLE
Keep left across the field until you reach the style.
PATH TO ROAD
Narrow path and watch your head!
CROSS BRACKENTHWAITE LANE
Straight over and continue the path
ACROSS BURN BRIDGE ROAD
Path is marked as private road but is part of the Harrogate Ringway
STRAIGHT ON
Between houses and go past the cricket ground on the right
OVER CRIMPLE BECK
Do not follow the onward path towards Mill Lane.
After the 5 bar gate, follow the road left between the houses. Cross the bridge and turn right onto Malthouse Lane.
UNDER THE BAR
At the end of the road, follow the short path to Crimple Meadows. Turn right and follow the road to Main Street.
ST ROBERTS
At Pannal church, turn right up Main Street through the village.
PANNAL STATION
Continue through the village and cross the railway bridge.
VILLAGE HALL
Turn right after the bridge and keep right of the village hall. Cross Leeds Road at the pedestrian lights.
COTE DE WALTON PARK
Go straight onto Follifoot Road, right onto Drury Lane, then right again onto Walton Park. Follow road through the estate until it comes back onto Drury Lane.
PANNAL GOLF COURSE
At Drury Lane turn right. Just before the bypass, turn left onto the path between the golf course and the main road.
LEFT AT 5 BAR GATE
Just before you get to the road, turn left onto another path.
FOLLOW FIELD EDGE
Go up the hill following the left field edge.
CROSS FOLLIFOOT ROAD
Pick up the footpath opposite.
INTO THE WOODS
Follow the path to the T-junction in the woods.
TREE JUNCTION
Turn right and follow the path down the hill.
THROUGH T' HOLE IN WALL
Exit the wood and turn right, following the railway line on your left.
CROSS THE RAILWAY LINE
Follow the path over the railway footbridge.
CRIMPLE VALLEY
Follow the path to the valley bottom with the viaduct on your right.
DOWN AND OUT
Cross the valley bottom and follow the fence to the right (ignore the left path)
COTE DE FULWITH MILL
At the end of the path, follow the road up the hill. At the top, follow the road left towards Leeds Road.
LEEDS ROAD
Cross Leeds Road at the refuge.
THE GINNEL
Follow the path opposite towards Daleside Avenue. Turn left, then right onto Stone Rings Lane.
DOWN HILL
At the end of Stone Rings Lane, turn left and follow the path down to the footbridge.
ACROSS AND UP
After the footbridge take the right route up the hill
THROUGH WALL
Look out for the tree and hole in wall at the top of the climb. Over the wall and turn right.
TAKE THE HIGH ROAD
Follow the higher path which is close to the wall. Avoid the path that goes straight down the hill.
THROUGH THE HEDGES
Follow the path as it bends down the hill through lines of hedges.
SANDY BANK WOODS
Head away from the path and towards the woods
DOG GATE
Find the wooden style with the built in dog flap (world-first)
CHURCH LANE
Head SSW through the wood towards the gate and Church Lane.
SPRING LANE
Turn left onto Church Lane, and then right onto Spring Lane back to the Scout Hut.
